Relax, don’t do it.

It’s a truism that if you want to get anything done, ask the busiest person you know. Some of us even pride ourselves on being busy. I’m so busy! is a cry of capable leadership, of productivity, and worn like a badge of honour, despite the person wearing it being worn out themselves. Yet what have we been so busy doing lately? Mostly scouring Netflix, or watching too many news channels (which all say the same thing, by the way) in our ‘down time’ before we race between looking after our parents and kids. For some reason, too many of us don’t ask for help. Maybe we’re too proud, as if asking were a sign of weakness. Well, guess what- it’s not. Besides, last time I checked, there were no gold medals for “Getting it All Done”. You deserve a break! That’s where Discerning Seniors comes in to offer services that restore your sanity and free time.

Taking a break, getting out of the mundane, isn’t just a lazy pursuit, in fact it provides healthy new challenges for our brains. Studies show that the brain releases dopamine, the pleasure neurotransmitter, whenever it encounters something new. That’s why even a little break can have a big impact on recharging your batteries. I know I could do with a holiday. Despite me loving my family, it would be nice to chat to other people. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to escape from the laundry, to find a freshly made bed, (made by someone else!), and an-always tidy bathroom sink? As travel opens up again, we can daydream and look forward to new adventures, where we can be free for a little while to indulge ourselves, and let go of the list chores (we know all the best people who can help!). Besides the great thing about a to-do list is that it’s very loyal- you can be sure it will be waiting for you when you get back!

So don’t dread the question: What’s new? Make this time count for you, take the break you deserve, so you can come back healthier in mind and spirit to come up with better ideas, a fresher you, so that your ‘new normal’ is full of life and joy!
